Majola is on a mission of helping small businesses get access to markets

Social markets are used to promote new businesses and to launch new products and services offered by these enterprises. The events, often held once a month, are a cocktail of live music, food stalls and stalls where the business owners get to exhibit their company’s offers.

Sihlesenkosi Majoli is the founder of a website, Popping.co.za, which helps these enterprises promote their businesses. These businesses also have access to spaces in popular weekend markets, and shopping centres for their pop-up shops. According to Majola Popping was founded on the basis of helping small businesses get access to markets, test new products and get more sales through pop-up shops. Majola intends to help as many small businesses as possible, motivated by his belief that small businesses are the future of employment in South Africa.

According to an article on the Mail & Guardian, during his final year at the University of Zululand, Majola left his studies in order to pursue business full time. Today, he works together with the Popping team to host strategic markets in some of the most popular shopping centres in and around Gauteng. One of Majola’s proudest moments was being invited to speak about the state of ecommerce in Africa at the 2019 World Economic Forum.

“Make sure you get the right people around you and don’t be afraid to tackle hard choices. Always hold people accountable for their actions,” he says.

Majola is also an alumni of ENACTUS UZ, where he founded projects to help local communities build their businesses. He is a YALI alumni, where he was accepted in the Entrepreneurship and Business track, according to Global Shapers. He was featured on 2022 Mail and Guardian 200 Young South Africans who are doing well in their respective careers and who are making a difference in their communities.
