“I love helping people in need through cycling. It has changed my life in many ways, and I believe I can change others’ lives through riding my bicycle,” said cycler and community builder Olebogeng Kgengwe.
This are the words of a man who has set his mind on helping less fortunate children in some parts of the Western Cape access much needed educational packs.
Kgengwe told the GoodThingsGuy that he is embarking on this mission across the Western Cape (1600kms far and wide) so that disadvantaged preschoolers can get education packs.
“Supplying these education packs will help children who do not have many learning resources available to them. With our help, they can develop the skills to succeed in formal school, breaking the cycle of poverty,” he wrote on his crowdfunding page.
The packs are sold at R70 each but most parents can’t afford them due to poverty in most areas.
He told the online publication that he is aiming to raise R38, 500 to purchase and give the parents or the guardians of these children these educational packs, which includes a booklet with activity guidelines for parents to help the children continue learning during the holidays, play dough, books among other things.
There are over preschoolers in 28 preschools across the underprivileged areas of Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Sedgefield, and Rheenendal who will receive and make use of this packs.
Kgengwe who currently calls Knysna home is originally from Bloemfontein will embark on his journey from April 6th to 13th.
“This ambitious route involves a challenging 16,000 to 20,000 meters of vertical ascent—all for disadvantaged preschoolers! This extraordinary quest isn’t just a test of physical stamina; it’s a heartfelt commitment to making a real difference in the world through the power of education,” stated the publication.
He said his mission is propelled by his firm belief in the transformative power of education and the critical need to support children at a crucial developmental stage.
Kgengwe said he uses cycling to change lives.
“I love helping people in need through cycling. It changed my life in many ways and I believe I can change other people’s lives through riding my bicycle.
He has launched an online crowdfunding campaign which can be accessed here and has raised the money he had aimed for, R38, 500.
Kgengwe’s efforts supports the Knysna Education Trust’s preschool intervention program, assisting children who are falling behind in developmental milestones to catch up and prepare for Grade R.
Editor’s note: This ambitious path requires a difficult 16,000 to 20,000-meter vertical ascent—all for disadvantaged children. We should congratulate this young community builder, Olebogeng Kgengwe, on his efforts.
