Bicycle Donation to Enhance Mobility for School Children

The Qhubeka Charity and Star Foundation joined forces to alleviate the hardships of several underprivileged children that ultimately impact their academic performance, and as a result, fifty Grade 9 learners no longer had to trek long distances to school.

With the weight of their books, thousands of young people in South Africa must endure the daily grind of walking long and exhausting distances to and from school along dusty roads.

Giving these kids a bicycle can have a profound impact on their lives by reducing the time and physical strain of travelling the distance from home to school, said the organisations.

Through the straightforward process of constructing and distributing bicycles, the Qhubeka Charity provides alleviation and enhanced mobility to individuals and marginalised communities.

The Star Foundation did a great job after learning of the charity’s priceless effort in improving the mobility of those in need. In an attempt to improve the daily trip for fifty Grade 9 learners at Sefutswelo High School in Uitkyk, the Star Foundation teamed up with Qhubeka and spent R425, 000 for new bicycles.

According to the Star Foundation group, “each scholar received a brand-new bicycle in February, along with spare parts for maintenance and a range of cycling accessories.”

Because cycling is 3.5 times faster than walking, The Star Foundation’s bicycle donation will transform the daily commute to school for these learners.

According to the foundation, “the new bicycles will not only cut down on travel time and allow learners to arrive at school on time, but they will also give them more energy to concentrate on their studies, which will improve their academic performance and increase their involvement in school activities.”

Before receiving their bikes, each learner received instruction on how to ride, how to maintain the bikes and their attachments, and the significance of adhering to traffic laws. This ensured that they were all ready for their new bicycles.

The charity stated, “We are thrilled to watch how each bicycle will have its proud new owner pedalling towards a brighter future.”
