This organisation wants to train people, especially young people and children, who want to learn how to play various musical instruments.
Based in Cape Town, the Genesis Community Arts Project, told News24 in March that its mission is to uplift children through music.
Jacintha Abrahams, a member of the centre, said there are children who come to hear them play and they become eager to learn an instrument.
But the centre is struggling to teach music as it used to as some, the centre has a shortage of instruments, which make it difficult for the centre to provide all young people and children.
Abrahams said the centre employs some volunteer who teach these instruments to the learners, this helps the young ones to be in a safe place.
“Volunteers are taking time out of their Saturdays and Sundays to teach and uplift the community by keeping these kids off the street where drugs and gangsterism are rife.
There is so much talent and we are trying to give the kids something to look forward to,” she said.
These young people and children (including the volunteers) are from all over Cape Town including, Simon’s Town, Grassy Park, Athlone, Ottery, Wynberg and Claremont.
To raise funds for the centre, management hire out the instruments to local bands and musicians in and around Cape Town.
“Currently there is a cost involved because people in our areas can’t afford it. But we have to maintain the instruments that we rent out. We won’t turn anyone away, we are a registered NPO and we are open to any kind of funding or donations. We will make a plan for anyone willing,” said the centre.
