Greeff participated in triathlons to raise funds for an organisation that cares for vulnerable children

Rehan Greeff took himself up on a very difficult yet fulfilling mission – to complete three full triathlons. Greeff has participated in the triathlons which were held in three countries in six days – all to help feed hungry children in Africa. An avid runner and a chartered accountant, who now lives in the United Kingdom (UK), Greeff has taken it upon himself to raise funds for the non-governmental organisation ForAfrika (previously known as JAM).

In an interview with SA Good News, Greeff said for the past few years, he had set himself personal quests under the title of “Run Forest Run” – a nod to his childhood nickname, which he was given because he had to wear metal leg braces just like the film character Forrest Gump. He had sustained serious knee injuries which explain why he had to wear the metal leg. But he was “miraculous healed” during a church service in 2017, so he then decided to give thanks by taking on these quests in support of vulnerable children.

It was in 2021, where he raised a whopping £50,000 (almost R1 000 000) on his mission to run the equivalent of seven marathons in one go which was the furthest he had ever run. Greeff completed his 300km run around Greater London in aid of the organisation’s #zerohunger campaign in 49 hours and 17 minutes and set a new record for the route in the process.

The interview revealed that he challenged (and trained) about 60 others to join him in running the furthest they had ever run too, be that 10km, 100km or anything in between.

“That was inspirational! That brings hope … when people pull together with a vision to impact thousands. That takes commitment, sacrifice and intentionality,” Greeff said.

He participated in the Uganda, South Africa and the UK triathlons because of the challenges faced by people in this African counties include malnutrition and climate change which is putting threats on food security and access to water among other things.

Editor’s note: Rehan is one of many people who are actually doing something to add to many efforts which bring about change in the African continent. He is risking his life while doing that.
