Veteran media personality Faith Mangope aims to help eradicate South Africa’s unemployment rate with the mobile application, New G. The app was in 2019.
The New G app will solve unemployment problems in South Africa.
The app was built to assist job seekers to find work. Founded by seasoned radio and television broadcaster Faith Mangope a few years ago. Job seekers create a profile that will match them with new job opportunities.
South Africa currently sits with over 32% of unemployed people, according to Stats SA 2020 figures.
Efforts by Mangope will help some South Africa, mostly young people, to get these much-needed opportunities.
According to the US-based and technology-driven university, Duke, Mangope is passionate about using technology to address digital skills challenges faced by many people in Africa.
“Her latest endeavor is the Faith Mangope Technology and Leadership Institute, an educational institution dedicated to addressing the digital skills gap currently faced in South Africa and the African continent, where 4IR is concerned. It looks to future proof the world of work, thereby future-proofing South Africa and Africa’s economy,” said the university.
The university also stated that she is also a member of the BRICS Business Council Skills Working Group, which looks at aligning South Africa skills to those possessed by BRICS countries.
Mangope has been advocating for young people to be the key drivers of change in their lives and to make an impact in their communities.
Her passion for community development has seen her working hard, she has founded the Faith Mangope Technology and Leadership Foundation.
The organisation assists young people especially young women who want to pursue their technology studies.
In a statement the organisation said: “[We want] to expose African women to global opportunities in the ICT Sector and to facilitate their participation in the sector. We are beginning this initiative with women in mind at first given the trends of participation of women within the technology industry. Women have for a long time either felt like they should not occupy a seat on the technology table, or have felt drowned out by a presumably more masculine industry. Ours is to level that playing field and provide equal opportunities”
The world is fast moving to a digital world and the industry, according to the organization, needs to employ more women who are technologically skilled.
“We also want to provide a support structure for women who are interested in working and becoming entrepreneurs in the ICT Sector,” said the organisation.
